From Our Pastor: 3rd Sunday in Ordinary Time
In the first reading this Sunday we hear about a Jewish liturgy. There is the reading of the law and call and response, and then the call to feast on the choicest of foods; a prefigurement of the Mass. Readings, call and response, prayers, and a meal of the choicest of foods, this is the Mass that we celebrate where we receive the choicest of foods, the Eucharist. This is just one of the moments that the Mass is prefigured in the Old Testament. Which brings us to the gospel where Jesus announces who He is, and where Jesus announces what He will do. He tells us very clearly that He is the long-awaited Messiah. That He will bring about the re-creation of the world and establish a year acceptable to the Lord, where all is forgiven, and feasting is the foundation of that year! May we realize that this is where we are today – in the year acceptable to the Lord where the Lord forgives us and feeds us with the finest food, the Eucharist.
Please make sure you get your picture taken for the directory, and please make sure you participate in the event to show our gratitude to the Franciscans. Someone asked if the Franciscans will be here, and I want you to know they all have been invited. And I hope especially all the Franciscans that were assigned here are able to come for the event. Let’s make this a fitting farewell and fun event.
