Lent Begins

On Tuesday, March 5th, we started our day with discovering who would be our Mardi Gras King and Queen for the day. After eating delicious rolls prepared by our own Tabitha Surowiec, 2 students came forward after finding the baby Jesus! Hayes Frericks and Ellie Fesler were the winners of the contest, and were then part of our Morning Prayer service. We symbolically buried the “Alleluia” until Easter Sunday, when Jesus rises from the dead. Students previously made masks to wear at the prayer service which were a symbol for weaknesses, laziness, and jealousy. We are called to be servants of God and throw off our masks and be a shining light in a crowd. We ask the Lord to take our mask of sin away so we can be true to ourselves and God from this day forward.

Our afternoon was filled with joyous celebration at our Mardi Gras Carnival. Students were allowed the freedom to play games in the gym and participate in activities throughout the school. We then had our Ash Wednesday Mass on Wednesday, March 6th and began our Lenten sacrifices. We will be having extra prayer services, Stations of the Cross, and plan to visit nursing homes in the city of Quincy as part of our Lenten activities. May this be a time of preparation and service.

Lori Shepard, Principal

Thank You

A special thank you to all parents who volunteered to help facilitate our Mardi Gras event on Tuesday, March 5th. We also greatly appreciate the donation of the snacks, prizes, and games that the students enjoyed. Without your support, this day would not be possible!

Running Club 2019!

In the midst of this COLD and DREARY weather, it is so hard to think about running!  BUT, the time is HERE!  BRING ON SPRING!  🙂

WHO: Students grades 4-8 AND adults to supervise (you are ENCOURAGED to train along-side-this is NOT possible without adult support!).  Students K-3 are invited to participate BUT MUST HAVE A PARTICIPATING PARENT/ADULT PRESENT AT ALL TIMES.

WHAT: QCES Running Club – training for Bridge the Gap (which is scheduled for Saturday, May 18 at 8:00)

WHEN:  We will meet on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays at 5pm starting on Monday, March 18.

WHERE:The club will ALWAYS meet at Bob Mays Park. We will run the trail there and meet back in parking lot after completion.

WHY: The whole purpose of starting this club is to get our kids moving, develop a life-long love and healthy habit, have fun, participate in something that ANYONE can do, and to feel that amazing sense of accomplishment when you cross the finish line on May 18 at the Bridge the Gap 5K race!

HOW:  We will be using the 8 week Couch to 5K training program.  Download the app for free (or look online) and follow along!  If your child misses a day, have them make it up so they don’t miss out on a day of the training program!  In addition, the students will be participating in warm-ups, cool-downs, stretching, and strengthening.

Contact: Kristen Patton or Nathan Bozarth with questions!
