St. Francis School News – September 14, 2018

Financial Grant Awarded:  We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Tracy Family Foundation for yet another generous financial grant they have awarded to St. Francis Solanus School for the 2018-2019 school year.  We have been awarded $28,000 to fund the following areas:

  • Intervention Specialist- This position provides support services to students who have a 504, ISP, or may need remedial help.
  • STEM Enrichment Program- This program will be offered to selected 7th graders, who will be challenged with advanced projects in math and science.
  • Curriculum Mapping- This process will involve all 4 Catholic Elementary Schools and will concentrate on the area of mapping science for the 2018-2019 school year.

We are blessed to have such a wonderful company like Dot Foods support our school each year, which allows our students to thrive and excel.  The Tracy Family has placed a strong value on Catholic education and the benefits shared with our students over the years have been outstanding.  God bless their family, Dot Foods, and the men and women who work for them.

My Best,

Lori Shepard, Principal

Safety Concerns:

Safety is our utmost concern at St. Francis Solanus School.  It has come to our attention that a few people are unfamiliar with our routines with barricades.  When the barricades are blocking a street, please do not drive around them.  Barricades are up because our precious students are in a street area. If you must enter the school grounds when the barricades are up, enter the far West parking lot and park.  You may then walk to the school without causing a safety hazard.

Thank you, Lori Shepard

GYM SHOES: Just a clarification on this new policy for the students.  ALL students are to change into a pair of gym shoes for P.E. class.  These shoes will be kept in the classroom.  The gym floor has suffered some scrapes and we are trying to remedy this quickly.  Any questions, please call the school office.

SCOTTIE’S SKATE NIGHT: Tuesday, Sept. 18th from 6 to 8 p.m.  Come out for some fun to kick off our first skate night of the school year. This opening night is a great fundraiser; the school gets 100% of all proceeds.

Substitute Request:

We are in search of people willing to substitute at St. Francis Solanus.  If you are retired, currently do not work, or have free time and are interested, please call the school office to gather more information.  (222-4077)

You will need a college degree, pass a background check, attend Protecting God’s Children, and will fill out some general forms before you will be added to our list.  We would love to have you!

SHAKESPEARE’S PIZZA SALES: The 8th grade class is selling these delicious pizzas for a fundraiser for their class trip in May.  If you would like to order one or more, please contact an 8th grader or call the school office. Thank you for supporting the class and their fun trip. Orders and money due by Sept. 26th.  Delivery will be Sunday, October 14th at the school around 1:30 p.m.

YEARBOOKS: This year we have changed companies to LifeTouch.  The yearbooks will be in color and will be sold SEPARATELY from photos. Yearbooks cost $12.00 each and are in color!  Two fliers have been sent home for ordering.   Any questions, please call the school office.

Prayer Walk: Tuesday, Sept. 18th at 7:00 p.m. Anyone wishing to participate should meet at the main entrance of the school on College Street.  We will walk through the school and cover it with prayer. There will be scripture and music.  If you have any questions, please contact Bryn Peters.

Mortgage Burning Celebration

On Sunday, September 16, after the 11:00 a.m. Mass, we will be having a parish celebration to commemorate the burning of the mortgage of the Parish Center.  This is a great milestone for our parish community and we want to celebrate it!  We will have a carry in meal and the parish will provide the main dish, table settings and drinks.
