St. Francis School News – October 18, 2019

School Safety:

Parents, please help us with keeping your children safe.  We are asking that you pick them up near the door where they are dismissed.  If the older children walk to the West parking lot to meet their siblings that is fine, but some children have walked to the “grassy lot” or have waited on the church steps for a ride.  We would like to keep them in view until their ride arrives so that we are confident they have gotten in with a parent or guardian.  If there is a child that is waiting after everyone has cleared out, we ask that they come back into our school building, make a call, and wait inside for their ride to arrive.  Please talk to your children and make sure that they are not walking to another location or sitting on a bench in order to wait for their ride. Also, jplease remind them to use the crossing guards to cross the street safely. Our goal is always to keep them safe at all times.  Thank you in advance for your support and help.

Club and Activity Photos– If your child missed their photo session, they may have another opportunity to have their picture taken on Thursday, October 24th.  The company will return that day to take club and activity photos for our yearbook.  Please remind students to bring their athletic shirts for their sport teams, their band instrument, and their scouting shirts.  If a child forgets to bring these items, they can still be in the photo and you will not need to make a trip to school.

Thank you!

Parish Stewardship Renewal:  This is a reminder for all families to complete the family card sent in the mail the first part of October.  The card may be mailed to the parish office or dropped in the collection basket at mass. You may also go to the website www.stfrancissolanus.com and complete the card information.  New this year is a Youth card for Grades 5-12.  These cards were given to students during religion class last week. If your student did not complete a card you may complete it on line at www.stfrancissolanus.com .  Paper copies of the card can be picked up in the back of church or parish office.  We thank all of you for your cooperation.

Great Apple Crunch

We are once again celebrating the Great Apple Crunch. Last year we were the only school in Quincy to participate and we were included in the total of 583,925 apple crunchers across the state!

The Great Apple Crunch began in 2013 as a way to raise awareness about healthy eating and supporting local agriculture.  In their inaugural year, 35,000 Illinois students crunched into apples on Crunch Day, and over $40,000 of local apple purchases brought more money into our local food and farm economy. Since then, the Crunch has grown significantly! This year we hope to hit over 600,000 crunchers!  Once again, Edgewood Orchards has donated 300+ freshly picked apples for today’s event. On Oct. 14th, all students were given an apple and they all took a bite at the same time! They were surprised at how loud the crunch was!

PLAYGROUND DUTY: If you are unable to make your scheduled day, please send in $10 to pay for the substitute that will cover the shift.  If you can switch with another parent for your shift, please call the office and let Judy know. Thank you for your cooperation.

Box Tops App: Dear Parents and Friends of St. Francis School,

In over 20 years box tops have been in existence, we have received $33,841.00.  So far this year with the changes to scanning your receipts, we have earned $9.20 and I do not have a large amount of box tops to submit. If you have any box tops at home, please send them to school or in the collection at church by Oct. 25th. I have to cut and count to send in by Nov. 1st. If you have the new app, please scan your receipts within 14 days of purchase.  If you can’t get the app, please send your receipt copies and we will try to get someone to scan it. Thank you for helping St. Francis School.  Sincerely, Karen Kroeger
