Hurricane Relief- Stewardship in Action!

I would like to thank teachers, staff, parents, and students who contributed to the recent Hurricane Relief efforts.  We raised $806.00 from our jean day and we have finally connected with a Catholic School in need in Naples, Florida.  This is an older elementary school, Pre-K through 8th grade with approximately 250 students.  Their windows were blown out from the damaging winds, and much debris was left behind along with all of the broken glass.  Carpets and flooring had to be removed and now students are walking on the base floor until they can be replaced.  Clean-up efforts were extensive and everything was covered in plastic for quite some time.  Many supplies in the classrooms were lost and are still missing.  The school was shut down for 17 days and when they reopened, the children were so happy and thankful to have a school to return to.   In order to make up for the time lost, they have extended their school day an extra half an hour so they will not lose academic time or have to extend their school year into the summer months.  They were thrilled to know that there is support for them somewhere else in the country.  Not only did their school get damaged, but their church, which is right across the street had a huge hole ripped in the center of the roof. The pews had to be moved, just to take care of some of the damaged areas.  They are currently meeting in the school gym for daily and weekly Mass. Our hearts, thoughts, and prayers go out to them.  We pray that this donation from one Catholic school to the next will in some way help to relieve their burden. We are most grateful to our students who are learning what true Stewardship means! (We originally tried to help a school in Puerto Rico, but the communication has been very difficult to establish).

Lori Shepard, Principal
