St. Francis School News – November 16, 2018

QCES Curriculum Mapping

During October and November, the QCES teachers began working together on creating a common science curriculum. The teachers from Blessed Sacrament, St. Francis, St. Dominic, and St. Peter participated in half day meetings with their grade level colleagues. The teachers from each school shared what is currently being taught and discussed the Next Generation Science Standards. At the conclusion of each session, the grade level teams collaboratively agreed on what science units all four schools will teach. Through this work, the teachers were not only able to create horizontal alignment for the four schools at each grade but also develop collaborative relationships.

Holy Name Society Donation

We would like to thank Dan Hoffman, Dennis Steinkamp, Tim Reichert and the men’s Holy Name Society for their generous donation to St. Francis Solanus School. Their annual golf tournament this past fall raised $5,180.00 for our school, and they also made a $100.00 gift to each one of the teachers for their classroom supplies. We will be using these funds for technology updates as well as toys and playground equipment for our students. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts and God bless you!

A Special Thank You

Thank you, teachers and staff for generously donating $1,166.00 to the United Way Campaign. Your support of their various programs will greatly benefit our community. Once again, your stewardship has been a wonderful example for others to follow!

New Employees

I am pleased to share some good news with you regarding our open positions of Librarian and Kindergarten Aide.  Since Dawn Peters has accepted another position, we have been interviewing this past week and have filled the positions as of today.  Rhonda Gianfriddo will return to St. Francis after a brief retirement to fill the part-time Library position.  We are thrilled to have Rhonda back and are confident that with her love of reading and English background, she will be a tremendous asset to the program.

We also have hired Natalie Powell for the Kindergarten Aide position.  Natalie has substituted for years for our school and has a wealth of experience in Kindergarten as an Aide.  She will be able to step into the program and assist Mrs. Hull without any training.  She and her husband have 2 children that attend St. Francis, and her mother is the Aide in Pre School.

We are blessed and thrilled to have both of these quality people to replace Dawn.  We thank her for the many years of service for our school in the Kindergarten classroom, the library, and the office in the summer as well.  She has provided a wonderful support in several areas and she will be greatly missed.

QND Pep Assembly

We would like to thank Mark McDowell, Tonya Hurst, Jill Steinkamp, and Jack Cornell for bringing QND students to St. Francis Solanus on Tuesday, November 13, for an all school assembly. The Notre Dame students teach the grade school students some cheers, the Notre Dame School song, and the importance of sportsmanship. Their performance is outstanding and it is always a pleasure to see the former St. Francis students in the band, as cheerleaders, and athletes.
