St. Francis School News – May 17, 2019

Teacher Appreciation Week– We would like to thank the Parent Teacher Organization for providing a delicious lunch for our teachers and staff this past week.  John Mitchell was hired from Hy-Vee to cook stir fry, and prizes were won by several of the faculty!  We greatly appreciate all that the PTO does for our teachers, students, and school!

BACON TIME!!! Yes, I’m at it again. Time for round 3! Anybody who wants bacon it’s the same as last time. $10 per lb, packaged and frozen. Its hardwood homemade bacon, smoked and cured. All you have to do is fry it up and enjoy it! Last time we did 125 lbs….this time I’m shooting for 200 lbs. Takes about 2 weeks to make the bacon. Funds from this will be going to the purchase of a new riding/zero turn mower to maintain the St Francis Hills Boy Scout property. Troop 22 which our St Francis Troop.uses this property extensively, in fact we will be camping there this weekend. I’m taking over those duties and we need the equipment ASAP. Open Position at St. Francis Solanus School-

St. Francis Solanus is accepting applications for the 6-8th grade religion position.  This position could also include 2 classes of 6th grade English, depending on the applicants’ credentials.  Resumes and inquiries may be sent to Lori Shepard at St. Francis Solanus School, 1720 College, Quincy, Illinois, 62301.  Or, applicants may send information to [email protected]  All applicants must have current Illinois certification, or be willing to obtain one.

INHALERS, MEDICINES, EPI-PENS ETC:  If your child has any of these items in the school office or classroom, please pick them up no later than Friday, May 31st.  All items left after this date will be thrown out.

SERVICE HOURS: There is ALWAYS a need for playground subs if you need to finish up some service hours.  All incomplete hours ($10.00 per hour) must be paid in full by May 31st.  If you have any questions about how many you have completed, please call the school office or check RenWeb.  Thanks!

QND FATHEAD Raffle:  Buy a chance or two to win a QND / ND logo fathead for your room (24”x24”).  Chances are being sold for $1 each or 6 for $5. Thanks and Good Luck! (this is a removable sticker that can be used over and over)

NEW LUNCH BILLING BEGINNING 2019-2020:  Lunch bills will be sent via email.  Please make sure your email is correct in RenWeb. All families with a balance of $10.00 or less will be notified.  All lunches are to be prepaid and are not to be charged.  Options to pay online or by check to the school office are available.  Any questions, please call the school office.

St. Francis Holy Name Banquet: Our annual banquet will be held on Thursday, May 30th at 6:00 p.m. in Solanus Hall.  Our guest speaker will be Reginald Ankrom who will speak on the history of Fr. Augustus Tolton, as well as his canonization progress.  We will serve a rib-eye steak dinner with all the trimmings for dinner.  RSVP for the banquet as well as annual dues are indicated in the Holy Name envelope that was recently mailed to you. It is important that you do RSVP for the dinner. You may also call or e-mail President Nathan Koetters at 217 242 9382 or [email protected] with your questions or RSVP. ALL male parishioners are considered members, so please take time to send in your envelope.  What a great way to extend an invitation to your son, grandfather or father, etc. See you there.

SCHOOL PICNIC: will be held at Upper Moorman Park on Monday, June 3rd.  Parents and students are to go directly to the park (not to school).  The picnic will begin at 8:30 and end at 12:00 this year.  Please make sure all bills and service hours are paid in full before the picnic to avoid any issues with report cards and records.

Thank you for your help and cooperation. Volunteers needed !! In case of rain, the event will be held at the school gym. Watch for text or email alerts.

12 Little Angels T-Shirts– will be for sale at the Parish Picnic for $10.00 each, for all who are interested.  As a reminder, the proceeds will go into the tuition assistance fund.  Thank you in advance for your support!

Graduation:  Congratulations 8th Graders!  We will miss the 8th grade students and we thank them for their leadership, service, and dedication to our school.  They have shared diverse talents and many gifts that have enriched our school.  We know they will represent St. Francis in the best way possible as they move on to their next level of academic challenges.  Below is a list of students who are recognized for participation in the band and chorus, and have made a tremendous effort to attend school as many days as possible.  We also appreciate the many students who have represented our sports teams, the school play, and many service hours for stewardship activities over the years. May 17th : 8th Grade Graduation at 7:00 p.m. in the church.  8th Grade students should arrive at 6:45 in cap and gown and sit in the back of church for attendance.

May 24th: DARE Graduation at 9:00 in the Parish Hall

June 3rd: Last day of school / School Picnic : all bills paid in full
